Transfer Talk: Napoli to replace Osimhen with Mexico’s Giménez

We still have some time before the summer transfer window reopens in Europe, but there are plenty of moves in the works and gossip is swirling around. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest buzz on rumours, comings, goings and, of course, done deals!

TOP STORY: Napoli scouting Mexico star Giménez

Napoli are leading the race to sign Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Serie A club are scouting the Mexico international as they look for a replacement for Victor Osimhen, who appears set to make a big money move to either Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea or Arsenal.

Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee is also in Napoli’s sights, but it is understood that club president Aurelio De Laurentiis prefers 22-year-old Gimenez, who has scored 21 goals in 25 Eredivisie appearances, two in four Champions League games, plus another goal in two appearances in the Europa League this season.

It is believed that an offer in the region of €50 million could be enough to land Gimenez.

PAPER GOSSIP

– Barcelona are set to hold talks with centre-back Ronald Araújo over a new deal after interest in his signature from Bayern Munich cooled, according to Sport. The 25-year-old has been linked with the Bundesliga side of late, but the latest indicates that they can only make a move for him if they move on one of their centre-backs first. The Blaugrana see Araujo as a key future part of their project.

– A move for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo is being considered by Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, reveals the Daily Mail. It is reported that the Premier League side could be forced to offload the 21-year-old as they look to remain aligned with Financial Fair Play rules. The club were recently handed a four-point deduction after they were found to have been in breach of the rules, and it looks as though clubs in Europe could look to take advantage of their situation.

– Manchester United are looking to sign a striker this summer, reports Fabrizio Romano in an interview with JD Football. It is said that the Red Devils are currently assessing what sort of profile they want to make a move for, though 29-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney is being considered as a potential option who could be added to their shortlist. Toney has received a call-up to the England national team for friendly matches this month against Brazil and Belgium.

– A switch to a club in Saudi Arabia or Qatar is likely for Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, reveals Sky Sports Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg. While the Bundesliga side are yet to confirm their contract decision to the 34-year-old, it is reported that they are leaning towards allowing him to leave as a free agent. He has scored 38 goals and registered 11 assists in 116 matches for Bayern across all competitions.
