Things I’m Loving Lately (October 2023)

Fall weather is creeping in, days are getting a little shorter, and my Better Than Pie diffuser makes me feel cozy all over whenever I walk by the powder room. I’m excited it’s Friday! I’m looking forward to a coffee catch up with Molly, watching Kaitlyn play a soccer game, and having dinner with friends.

Cloud RO Water Filter – you know I’ve loved my Berkey for years and years, but we recently put it into storage as we installed a new Cloud Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System. And I’m in love. We chose this system because not only does it strip out 99% of contaminants from your water, it also re-mineralizes it with what your body needs (making it alkaline water with a pH of 8) and has less water waste and a faster flow than many other systems. It also syncs with an app on my phone so I can constantly monitor our water quality. As for upkeep, a typical system for a family of four means we will need new filters roughly once a year at a cost of $200.

We’ve had it for two weeks now, and we are all obsessed. The water tastes great and it’s so nice to not have to keep refilling the Berkey and have my counterspace back. I reached out and they gave me a code to pass along, so if you’re in the market for something similar, use code AHEALTHYSLICE for $150 off.

Slow Cooker Meals – it’s slow cooker season! This week I made one of my favorites, slow cooker chicken curry, and next week plan on making set it and forget it easy beef stew when the weather cools down! If you’re looking for more slow cooker meal ideas that the whole family will love, check out this kid-approved slow cooker favorites post from the time I made 40+ slow cooker meals and wrote down all the kids favorites!

I have gone through a few slow cookers and now use this Instant Dutch Oven as my go to slow cooker. It’s enamel-lined cast iron so I feel good about the safety of it and it’s easy to use. Plus I can sauté ingredients right in the same pot before switching to slow cook.

If I were ever to get a new slow cooker that is just a slow cooker, I’d go with something like this, with a stainless steel inner pot.

Japanese Chef’s knife – I do not know how long these deal will last, but so many of us jumped on it yesterday on IG and it’s still on sale (with additional 25% off coupon!), so I had to share it again here. The imarku 8″ Japanese stainless steel kitchen knife is going to make cooking so much more enjoyable. In full transparency, it’s my second favorite knife after my Nakano, but it’s so much more reasonably priced, especially right now. I highly recommend it for your own kitchen or as a gift for a friend that loves to cook.

On the recommendation of an IG friend, I also bought the imarku paring knife, so making dinner is about to get all kinds of wild and fun 😉

Gorgoretta Audiobook – recommended for ages 7+, this theatrical audiobook is something my kids look forward to every October since we first listened to it 3 years ago. I know not everyone is down with spookiness, and this story is certainly suspenseful and will make the kids jump, but there is no gore, profanity, sexuality, or real horror. Think of an old fashion spooky fireside tale with voices and music to bring it to life.

Organic Castor Oil – sharing today in hopes you can snag it while it’s on sale if it’s something you’re interested in. Castor oil has been a new add to my natural medicine and beauty collection this year and I’ve been very impressed.

I won’t go into all the things it can help with (though if you google it, you’ll see the multitudes of uses), but I’ll share a couple of my personal ones. I use it for scar healing, on my eyebrows and eye lashes for growth and strength, in my belly button and on my abdomen for digestive and hormonal benefits, and on my cuticles at night for strength and suppleness.

The Land of Roar – this is the first book in a series of three about 11 year old twins, Arthur and Rose, that travel back into a land they imagined as young children to save their grandfather. I bought the audio version of it and we flew through it and are now over halfway through the second book. It’s an engaging and fantastical adventure that ages 7-10 will love. I wanted to share it here because I don’t feel like it’s very well known. Highly recommend!

Halloween Movies – If you are looking for something festive and fun without being too spooky, check out the list of 26 Halloween Movies for Young Kids. I referred to it last night after the girls and I tried to watch The House with a Clock in the Wall and turned it off after the first 20 minutes. It was… intense. Instead we switched our girls night movie to The Addam’s Family (animated) and it was a giggly good time for all involved. No nightmares included.

I hope you have a fabulous fall weekend!!
